Karyn I am so amazed that I am able to study with SAMA. It’s magic to me, life and heartbeat and breath and faith all flowing seamlessly in streams within my consciousness, opening and pushing me beyond my traditional theories of medicine to higher levels of healing. Our Registered Ayurveda Health Counselor Program at Sacred Stone School is approved and exempted by the RIOPC since 2012. Our ABS program is approved by the CBTMB for CEs in massage therapy as well.  We have graduated over 3,000 successful and happy students in the metaphysical healing arts. This advanced, comprehensive form of Life Coaching is now available for students, laypersons and professionals in the healing arts industry who are interested in learning Ayurvedic and counseling skills to enhance their yoga or massage practice, or their personal health as well and the health of others. The time-proven science of Ayurveda is founded on the concept of individuality, food as medicine, consciousness, metaphysics, sound healing, love, our genetic constitution and epigenetic principles. This is the science of self-healing from India and considered one of the three top medical systems in the world, according to the World Health Organization in Atlanta, GA.

“Disease is not spontaneously procured; it is always produced. It is acquired by a lifestyle that is not aligned with the laws of nature. Disease is not a question of exposure. It is the status of the individual’s inner ecology and immunity that gives rise to the vulnerability of contracting disease. If an external pathogen such as virus yeast, parasite and bacteria invade the body, the impact on our health will be minimal unless our inner ecology has become toxic, acidic, weakened, or congested. By applying the principles of the ancient, evidence-based, holistic science of Ayurveda to our daily modern living, the human condition will be supported by the laws of nature effortlessly. Registered Ayurvedic Health Counselors are trained to create the space and provide the tools for people to heal the body, mind and spirit by making simply daily choices based on your unique body type. More education, more meditation and less medication.”  –Karyn Chabot, M. Ay, LMT, RYT

    Two Study Options

Dr Vasant Lad and Karyn Marie Chabot

7-Month Option: This is an intensive course designed for students who wish to become an Ayurvedic Health Counselor in conjunction to their current healing practice and/or to help their family and friends, rather than use it solely as their only vocation.

This is a 500-hour program including homework, pre-recorded and live webinars, yoga, access to the robust Sacred Stone School media library, multiple choice exams, and independent study contact hours. Plan to dedicate about 12 hours per week of study, though I have witnessed many students squeak by with only 5-8 hours per week. Everyone learns differently and at their own pace. This course is self-paced with no deadlines for anything except requirement submissions must be delivered at least 1 week prior to the graduation date.

If students are unable to complete their requirements prior to their 7th month graduation date, they have the option to pay $350/month due on the 1st day of the 8th month and on the 1st of every month until they reach the 12-month mark. Sacred Stone School offers a grace period of 2 weeks for payment. After that, students will need to re-enroll and pay the difference for the 1-year tuition as described below. Students always have the option to roll into the 12-month program once they have reached the 7-month mark for an additional monthly fee.

However, graduation from this program does not meet the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) exam requirements. NAMA requires a minimum of 650-hours and this is a 500-hour program designed for students who do not wish to be credentialed with NAMA or pass the national exam.

All students (7 & 12 mos programs) must conduct a minimum of 25 Health Encounters (Consults) and provide the required forms to SAMA for review. As part of the review process, students pay $50 per encounter (Consult) to SAMA and may ask for a donation from each mock client.

    Enroll in the 7-Month Program

12-Month Option: This is a program where graduates earn the credential of Registered Ayurvedic Health Counselor and are eligible to sit for NAMA’s national exam.

This is a 718-hour program including homework, pre-recorded and live webinars, yoga, access to the robust Sacred Stone School media library, multiple choice exams, and independent study contact hours. Plan to dedicate about 8-10 hours per week of study, though I have witnessed many students squeak by with only 6 hours per week. Everyone learns differently and at their own pace. This course is self-paced with no deadlines for anything except requirement submissions must be delivered at least 1 week prior to the graduation date.

As compared to the 7-mo program, this is a more comprehensive, extended program with more time to learn in a relaxed way. Graduation from this 12-month program holds the possibility of being eligible to sit for the National Ayurvedic Medical Exam and become a member of NAMA, along with full participation in the internship in-person program. Internship is offered at an additional cost and NOT included in the 7-month or 12-month tuition. However, internship is optional for students do not wish to sit for the NAMA’s national exam or become a NAMA member.

If students need more time after their first year, they may stay enrolled for an additional $350/month. However, at the 18-month mark, based on the date of the student’s first tuition payment, students are required to re-enroll and will be subject to the current parameters and tuition rates. This 12-month program uses the same textbooks, exams and other curricula structure as the 7-month program, but at a slower, more relaxed pace. However, this program requires more independent study hours and homework requirements to fulfill the 718-hour mandate.

All students (7 & 12 mos programs) must conduct a minimum of 25 Health Encounters (Consults) and provide the required forms to SAMA for review. As part of the review process, students pay $50 per encounter (Consult) to SAMA and may ask for a donation from each mock client.

    Enroll in the 12-Month Program

*The date of a student’s first tuition payment is considered the official start date for the allotted 7-month option and 12-month option. All requirements must be met before the 7-month or 12-month date deadline, except for the Gurukulum Internship.

    Requirements

Registered Ayurveda Health Counselor Program - approved and exempted by the RIOPC

Students are required to read twenty-two chapters in Dr. Vasant Lad’s first two textbooks and take twenty-two short multiple-choice online exams over the course of their program. Each exam is approximately twenty-five multiple-choice questions and are auto-corrected immediately and require a 75% passing score. This “Open-book-honor-system” helps release any exam phobias while maintaining the highest and best learning standards.

Our audio/video selections are experienced in the privacy of the student’s home. Students are responsible to report on eleven of their favorite audio or video from the Sacred Stone School Media library for graduations requirements. Students may choose any selection they are drawn to and are required to prepare one detailed paragraph on their favorite part. This should be submitted via email to the Class Liaison before graduation.

School courses - credentialed by CBTMB for continuing education in massage therapyInternship at SAMA may also be referred to as client encounters, client consults, client visits or gurukulum. Internship requirements differ in both the 7-mo and 12-mo programs. Students have up to 2 years to fulfill their Internship requirements based on their orientation start date. Internship requirements are mandatory if student's wish to be eligible to sit for the NAMA exam. Otherwise, internship for the supervised encounters is considered an elective for SAMA's 7-mo graduates. However, for SAMA graduates who wish to be eligible to sit for the NAMA exam, the 50 encounters within the internship is required and is an additional fee. SAMA may schedule annual retreats to meet internship requirements for the 12-mo program where supervision is mandated for each encounter. Such annual retreats are generally 5 days of dynamic observation of 25 supervised client/counselor interactions during a classic Ayurvedic consultation. Students who can’t attend in person have the option of interning with a local approved AHC Counselor and critically evaluate and summarize their findings (1 page per client). Additionally, another 25 unsupervised consultations done independently are required by NAMA and should be submitted on SAMA's intern forms and signed by the client. This can be with friends, family, strangers, colleagues or anyone interested. Students only need supply the name and date of their 25 clients with a signature.

Students meet once per month for 2 hours on Zoom.us (Webinar) for Satsang to review what they read in the required texts, ask questions, get to know one another, and deepen their knowledge with Karyn or another master instructor. Should a student require more one-on-one time, you can be set up with a qualified Sacred Stone School graduate mentor for an additional $20/hour.

Students are required to do a one 1-hour yoga class per week in their homes via DVD or in a classroom setting, except while they are menstruating or ill. Sacred Stone School’s Online Media Library has many wonderful Yoga DVDs available. Student’s yoga experiences (one or two sentences) should be documented in a journal. Journal entries are due prior to graduation. *Exception: If the student is already a Certified Yoga Teacher through the IYS or the YA, the 1-hour yoga class or DVD requirement will be waived. Certified Yoga Teachers need to submit their certificates via scan or fax or hard copy in person.

Q: Would my current hours suffice the anatomy and yoga hour requirements?

A: Yes, if you are an occupational therapist, I understand you had to take A & P for that. If you can email your A & P transcripts, I can waive that requirement, though there is no discount for that.

Q: What is the ultimate difference in the 7-month course vs the 12-month course?

A: The curriculum is practically identical, but the 12-mo program includes 162 extra hours of independent guided study, ethics, and a 5-day clinical internship to cover 25 supervised client/patient visits which is an extra fee. There are also more video summary requirements for the 12-mo program, which is part of the 162 extra hours of independent study.

Q: Can both be registered with NAMA?

A: Only the 12-mo program meets the NAMA requirements and only those students would be eligible to sit for the national exam.

Q: If I completed one of these courses, could it possibly count towards my 500-hour YTT?

A: This is a question for Yoga Alliance or IYAC. My best guess is yes because my Sacred Stone School is a registered YA school, as well as I believe they are accepting online CEs this year due to covid-19. Your yoga requirements at Sacred Stone School would also be waived once you email a copy of your 500-hour YTT certificate.

Q: Am I able to work at my own pace? Meaning, If I work diligently am I able to complete the course in a shorter amount of time?

A: Yes, students may work at their own pace and get the course done more quickly. I offer clinical internship once per year—sometimes twice—so students in the 12-mo program would need to delay graduation until they have completed that piece. Although, students could get all their academic requirements done much sooner if they focused full time on the curriculum.

Q: What happens if I need more time to graduate because my life got too busy or life threw an unexpected curve ball?

A: The first month extension is free if a student is experiencing financial hardship. After that, extended tuition is $350 per month.
